On October 5, 2007, Bungie announced that it had split from Microsoft and become a privately held independent company, Bungie LLC, while Microsoft retained ownership of the Halo franchise intellectual property. In January 2019, Bungie announced it was ending this partnership, and would take over publishing for Destiny.

In January last year, the gaming world was rocked with the news that the Activision-Bungie partnership was ending, and that Bungie would be self-publishing Destiny 2 and future games in the future.

Bungie was bought by Microsoft when Bungie couldn’t get Halo to work on the Playstation, so they thought they would get a good, steady job/deal working for the company that they could make their game work on.

Under MS, Halo became an FPS and launched the Xbox. After the release of Halo 3 (I think, it was sometime around then), Bungie bought back their independence from MS and fulfilled their obligation to create the remaining Halo games (ODST, Reach).

Bungie’s “Halo 2” made a reported $125 million in first day sales. “Destiny” has been reported to be one of the most expensive video games ever made. Early estimates suggested it cost up to $500 million to make and market the game.

With the Halo franchise assigned to 343 Industries after Bungie’s shift to Destiny, Halo Infinite will also be developed solely under the same roof. Halo Infinite’s campaign is being led by Joseph Staten, a Halo series veteran who has worked on the original games made by Bungie extensively.

Microsoft

There has been no official confirmation of Fallout: New Vegas 2, but gamers have been hoping that it could happen someday. Many fans of the series consider New Vegas to be the best of the series since its acquisition by Bethesda.

Microsoft has finalized its $7.5 billion deal to acquire ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Doom and Fallout studio Bethesda Softworks.

It’s years away—not coming until after Starfield, Bethesda’s next big project, which is being released in November 2022. Full development on The Elder Scrolls 6 likely won’t start until that project is finished, which likely puts The Elder Scrolls 6’s release date sometime in the mid 2020s.

Skyrim does indeed run on the PS5, but only thanks to the console’s backwards compatibility with a large number of PS4 games.
