The Ancient cultures of Egypt and Mesopotamia helped to develop civilization today. Ancient Egyptians developed a civilization in northeastern Africa in the Nile River valley. Ancient Mesopotamia was one of the first civilizations that developed a form of government as well as organized people into political states.

Irrigation helped to stabilize the flooding in both ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, and was one of the major reasons why both civilizations developed a surplus of food. One major technology that developed independently in both civilizations was a form of record-keeping, more commonly known to us today as writing.

The success of ancient Egyptian civilization came partly from its ability to adapt to the conditions of the Nile River valley for agriculture. The predictable flooding and controlled irrigation of the fertile valley produced surplus crops, which supported a more dense population, and social development and culture.

Agriculture created most of Ancient Egypt’s wealth. Most Ancient Egyptians were on the poverty line while the priests and pharaoh were extremely wealthy. Two of every three people in a family had to work. Hunting was crucial to the poor to survive, but was a leisure activity for the rich.

Egyptians believed cats were magical creatures, capable of bringing good luck to the people who housed them. To honor these treasured pets, wealthy families dressed them in jewels and fed them treats fit for royalty. When the cats died, they were mummified.

In the Christianity, the cat did not always represent a positive phenomenon, it was sometimes believed that the cats are animals originated from the devil, especially in the case of black cats. In ancient Egypt, cats were symbol of beauty. People believed that cats are sacred animals and that they are a gift from God.
