Celebrations and death The tournament at Westminster was the most lavish of Henry’s reign, and is recorded via a long illuminated vellum roll, known as The Westminster Tournament Roll to be found in the College of Arms collection. He died on 22 February 1511 at Richmond Palace, and was buried in Westminster Abbey.

Henry VIII chose his fourth wife, Anne of Cleves, from her portrait. He was disappointed by the real woman, but there is more to his change of heart than first appears.

Katherine produced six children, but only a daughter (the future Mary I) survived. As the years went by, Henry became desperate for a male heir, finally attempting to divorce his queen for a younger woman. He argued that their marriage had been unlawful; Katherine, a staunch Catholic, was having none of it.

His last wife (Catherine Parr) outlived him. Monarchs in the Tudor times rarely married for love.

Why did Henry VIII have six wives? Henry would divorce two wives, and behead two – Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard – for adultery and treason.

Francis confronted Mary to why she left and she told him of Nostradamus’ prophecy. He found it to be superstition. She eventually ruined her relationship with Francis once she made Henry change the line of succession; she would marry Bash instead. Francis heartbroken and betrayed by Mary, leaves the French Court.
