Farmers took advantage of the extensive river system of the West, shipping wheat and corn down the Ohio River to the Mississippi and then down the Mississippi to the port of New Orleans where it was sold or shipped to distant ports.

The settlers became successful farmers and built housing and factories. Unfortunately, the Native Americans lost their land and had to live on small reservations. In conclusion, the Westward Expansion led to America becoming a superpower.

The California Gold Rush was a major factor in expansion west of the Mississippi. That westward expansion was greatly aided by the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad in 1869, and passage of the Homestead Act in 1862.

After the last expansion, gold was discovered at Sutter’s’ Mill, bringing many more Americans from the East, and benefitting them greatly, even bringing in people from outside America. This revolutionized America’s economy. Manifest Destiny brought money, land, resources, and a strengthened economy to the Americans.

The philosophy drove 19th-century U.S. territorial expansion and was used to justify the forced removal of Native Americans and other groups from their homes. The rapid expansion of the United States intensified the issue of slavery as new states were added to the Union, leading to the outbreak of the Civil War.

Without Manifest Destiny there would be less movement of Americans to Texas, Oregon, and California. Still many Americans might have moved to these areas. People could have settled in Oregon except their was a dispute between Russia, Britain, and Spain as to which country might dominate or control the area.
