Building an engine for torque will not in and of itself improve fuel economy. You’ll want to install either an overdrive transmission or extremely numerically low (under 3-to-1) rear-end gearing to keep the engine in its low-rpm sweet spot.

the 460 is a solid and reliable engine, even when making better than 1.5hp per cubic inch. they do have some issues, fuel economy(like that matters if you plan on building a 460) is one of them.

The 460 engine from Ford is used in trucks and large cars like Lincolns. These engines are not fuel effecient, and some vehicles they are used in get less than 10 miles per gallon.

Ford Bigot I was on an engine site earlier that lists the 460’s weight fully assembled at 720 lbs. Here’s the website, maybe it will help you balance the best motor for the weight. A 5.0 Mustang motor is at about 450 lbs. There you go have fun with the engine page!

Registered. With the Cleveland the weight slip was 3,700 pounds, with the 468 (aluminum head) BB the new weight slip is 3,760 pounds.

Figure ~ 230 for the block, 75 on the crank, ~17 for pistons/rings, plus the weight of the filler and rods (not sure on aluminum).

460 alum heads 670 lbs.

Probably around 450 lbs, not as heavy as you would think.

The ERA cobra guys did a study on a 390 motor. The all-iron version weighs 610 lbs stock. By adding aluminum heads, manifold, and water pump they got the weight down to 520 lbs.

A 360 weighs 540 lbs., a 258 weighs 500.

Dart lists the weight of their iron 351 block at 195 lbs without the caps.
