One of the best ways of finding inspiration as an artist is looking at other artists’ work and learning from them. And the more you paint, the more you learn, and the more you are able to look at other artists’ work and decipher what they were doing and their thought processes behind what they were doing.

Three elements of art: color, value, and texture, are useful in creating emphasis through contrast. Using texture in only one spot or placing a light object in an otherwise dark environment will attract the attention of the viewer. Let’s take a closer look a how color creates emphasis.

A good composition is one where the artist controls the movement of the viewer’s eye to a beneficial result. We can do this by a number of means, such as reinforcing the focal point with the Rule of Thirds, implied lines, contrast of value and selective colour saturation.

A statue is more than its material content; statues carry the power of symbolism. By placing a statue at a public site, viewers are expected to honor and respect the person represented in larger-than-life-size bronze. Symbols matter to the way we perceive others.

Because of their role in this dialogue, statues cannot be treated as sacrosanct. They represent what people in the Past chose to celebrate and memorialise, they do not represent history. Instead, statues in public spaces since Antiquity have most typically been used to represent power and authority.

Creative thinkers and makers provide their communities with joy, interaction, and inspiration, but they also give thoughtful critique to our political, economic and social systems — pushing communities to engage thoughtfully and make steps toward social progress.

All works of art may be literally original, but not all works of art are as original as others. Those utilizing a more as-yet-unseen vision or style and/or best integrating previous works into their own will be the original works.

Artists focus on creating aesthetically pleasing works, while artisans’ work focuses on accessorizing and functionality more than aesthetics. The work of artists tends to be shown in museums or galleries, while artisans sell their crafts at fairs and shops.

The definition of an artisan is a skilled worker or craftsman. A baker of specialty breads is an example of an artisan. A worker in a skilled trade; craftsman. A skilled manual worker who uses tools and machinery in a particular craft.
