Urban communities bring many different types of cultures together. Suburbs are communities near cities. They have houses for families to live in. Many people who work in the city live in the suburbs.

An urban area includes the city itself, as well as the surrounding areas. Many urban areas are called metropolitan areas, or “greater,” as in Greater New York or Greater London. When two or more metropolitan areas grow until they combine, the result may be known as a megalopolis.

Suburban Living They typically have more land than homes in urban neighborhoods and less than homes in rural areas. Apartment complexes are common in the suburbs, but they are different from city apartments. They are usually only a few stories tall and tend to have more spacious floorplans than urban apartments.

Effects of Weather: Weather is one of the major factors for the drawback of living in the countryside. Blizzards, flooding, and torrential rain are some of the common phenomena in the rural areas. Recently though most of the roads are paved with cement, most of them are still uneven and full of dirt.

Advantages of city life The first advantage of city life is access to electricity. Unlike many rural areas that have no electricity, majority of the houses in the city have electricity which is a convenience to many. When you live in the city, you have access to better roads and better means of transport.

There isn’t as much traffic or smog or pollution from industry. Busy towns or cities can feel crowded and may mean you feel more stress or pressure. You may also not be able to form such tight knit communities in urban areas. Urban areas tend to be more expensive to live in. Property prices are higher and so are goods and services.

Suburban Living The main disadvantage to life in the suburbs is that it takes longer to reach most destinations. Living in the suburbs and living in the city often makes for a long commute, especially since public transport is often harder to access.
