From everything I had heard from industry pros, the Voice Caddie Swing Caddie SC200 is pretty darn accurate. So, I picked one up and headed straight for the range. The device itself is about the size of a cell phone, just a little bit thicker, and runs on four AAA batteries.

The Swing Caddie then uses a Doppler radar sensor to measure clubhead speed, ball speed and smash factor (which is the energy transfer from club to ball) in order to make a projection for carry distance. You can see this by the fact the distance is shown on the 4 inch LCD screen before the ball has landed.

The SC200 has a few more additional features than the SC100 and is about $100 more expensive. The first addition is a Barometric Pressure Calibrator which will help give the most accurate readings possible in different areas. The second is that it’ll read your distances to you.

Swing Caddie claims that the SC300 launch monitor is accurate within 3% of the data provided for ball speed, within 5% accurate for data provided on carry distance and 3 yards in carry distance when measured in Target mode. The remaining data points are accurate within a very acceptable 3%.

Overall. My overall opinion is that this is a fun device, but one that ultimately favours form over function. It looks great in your hand, the yardages were accurate and I did eventually get the hang of the device, but the lack of a screen made it a little harder to use and understand that other devices I’ve used.
