Most children around the world believe in a Christmas gift bringer. It’s often St. Nicholas, Santa Claus or Father Christmas, but in parts of Germany they believe that it is the Christkind, in Spain they believe it is the Wise Men and in parts of Italy they believe it is an old lady called Befana.

Did you know that “Secret Santa” is known as “Kris Kringle” in other parts of the world? Ireland and parts of Canada refer to the time honored tradition of secretly exchanging gifts at Christmas time as “Kris Kringle.” But no matter how you refer to it, it is still played the same way around the world.

Secret Santa is a Western Christmas tradition in which members of a group or community are randomly assigned a person to whom they give a gift. The identity of the gift giver is to remain a secret and should not be revealed.

Each person then chooses one name from the box, but doesn’t tell anyone which name was picked. When the Secret Santa wraps his/her gift, he/she should label it with the recipient’s name but doesn’t indicate whom the present is from. (Remember, most of the fun is in the secrecy.)

Santa Claus, legendary figure who is the traditional patron of Christmas in the United States and other countries, bringing gifts to children. His popular image is based on traditions associated with Saint Nicholas, a 4th-century Christian saint. Father Christmas fills the role in many European countries.

There isn’t a right or wrong age to tell kids the truth. Instead, take cues from them and their understanding of the world. Usually, somewhere between the ages of five and seven kids begin to think a little more critically.

The elf only moves at night when it makes its trip back to the North Pole. Once it returns home, it then assumes a new position in the house. In their household, an elf would appear every year after Thanksgiving to keep an eye on the children and prevent them from misbehaving.
