Faster Transition for Triathletes Running without socks is probably most common for triathletes. Transitioning as quickly as possible between biking and running is critical. If you don’t have to put on a pair of socks, you can save valuable time.

If a race is off the track, you shouldn’t wear any kind of spikes. If you’re talking about an 800, 1600, 5k, 10k, on a track, you could wear track spikes, but chances are you don’t need to. Many runners do wear running spikes to get that little bit more push from the ground.

The flyknit sock-like uppers conforms to the shape of your foot, creating a snug, hug-like feel. It’s a true to size fit without socks. If you wear socks, I would recommend sizing up by a half size.

You may love running without socks, but you probably won’t love how your shoes smell. Without socks, your shoes will marinate in any sweat, bacteria or fungus introduced by your bare feet.

FLYKNIT UPPER: I love the flyknit uppers since it hugs the foot and is super breathable. It also helps keep them lightweight. This is personal preference, but I just find the flyknit super comfortable like a nice pair of socks. (Note, I DO wear socks with these but I’ve heard some people don’t.)

It represented an intensification of concern that the Vaporfly design was turning the humble trainer into an unfair form of performance enhancement. Now Kipchoge’s Vaporflys have been banned from competition in a recent move by running’s governing body, World Athletics.

Their data, based on race results from more than one million marathons or half marathons in dozens of countries from April 2014 to December 2019, suggested that runners wearing Vaporfly 4% or Vaporfly Next% ran 4 to 5 per cent faster than a runner wearing an average running shoe.
