The film can now be streamed in Netflix, so this is a great time to revisit it–or perhaps even check it out for the first time if you’re yet to experience its wonders. And once you’ve done that, read our guide to all the things you didn’t know about Poltergeist…

Great movie (well, I think so) It is an amazing movie with outstanding acting, Special effects, and storyline/plot. It is very violent and gory (in one scene, see above review) but most kids 12-13+ should be able to handle it.

And both are responsible for turning Poltergeist, a haunted-house horror masterpiece (I’ll grant it that) from a unanimously-rated R to a PG on appeal. This was before PG-13 ratings, a period well documented in pop culture. Except very little of it mentions Poltergeist.

You might also hear other false or exaggerated Poltergeist myths, such as all three kids from the original film died, which is totally untrue. Robbie Freeling, played by Oliver Robins, is alive and well.

O’Rourke played the role in all three films. O’Rourke’s delivery of the lines “They’re here!” in the first film, and “They’re baa-aack!” in the second (that film’s tagline), placed her in the collective pop culture consciousness of the United States.

But for Robins, now 43, the most difficult loss came in 1988 when younger screen sister Heather O’Rourke, who starred as possessed Carol Anne in all three films, died suddenly aged 12 from cardiac arrest. Everyone was shocked by the deaths and millions of fans instantly blamed ‘the curse of Poltergeist’.

The “Poltergeist curse”, as it’s become known, came about after four of the cast members died of mysterious circumstances – the most shocking being that of Heather O’Rourke. The young actress was tragically pronounced dead after suffering septic shock, on February 1, 1988.

No, they are not the same place. According to this site, Poltergeist was filmed in Agoura Hills. Another page on the same site indicates that the street where they take off on the bike (I assume that’s the one you’re thinking of) is filmed in Granada Hills.

The Enfield poltergeist was a claim of supernatural activity at 284 Green Street, a council house in Brimsdown, Enfield, London, England, between 1977 and 1979 involving two sisters, aged 11 and 14.

E.T. was filmed in Crescent City, Los Angeles, Porter Ranch, and Fort Dick, California. Elliot’s house was located at 7121 Lonzo Street, Tujunga, Los Angeles, California.
