BT Residential don’t offer static IP address(es) so surprised why the salesperson told you otherwise. However its not the end of the world being on a dynamic IP.

These steps should apply to most Android devices.

1. Go to Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi.
2. Tap the network that you want to change the IP address for.
3. Select Forget.
4. Tap the network from the list of available Wi-Fi networks.
5. Select Advanced options.
6. Tap DHCP.
7. Choose Static.

The best way to avoid paying for a static IP is to carry on using a dynamic IP address, but use a dynamic DNS provider such as No-IP which you can cause to update every time your IP address changes (routers will often do this for you automatically, or there are Windows / OSX / Linux (such as ddclient) clients).

Are you talking about your public IP address? If you are, you can not get a static IP address with a BT Residential line. You would need to get a business line. There is no set time when your public IP address will change however it will probably change if you switch your router off and on again.

BT residential broadband do not offer static IP addresses. For most users of BT Broadband, a DDNS service is all that is needed, if they need to host services on their network. Have you looked at the BT Business packages?

Just to answer the immediate issue, you can actually order a static IP yourself from the BT portal. Login with your primary BT Connect email address and password. Go to Manage Services at the top then go to Connection Settings on the main page.

As the smart hub is only for home users it has no functionalty for using a range of static IP’s, if you only jave a single static IP, as long as you configure it to use your business broadband username and password we auto assign the single static IP to the router when it logs in.

A No NAT IP range comes with five static IP addresses that can be assigned to separate computers. The No NAT range of IPs are delivered based on your username and password and via a separate dynamic IP address. The dynamic IP address assigned with No NAT acts as a carrier address for your internet connection.
