Motorcycle air filters are an essential part for your bike. When working properly, an air filter traps dirt and other particulate matter, preventing the same from entering into your engine.

Riding without an air filter will allow dust into the engine but, unless you’re in really dusty conditions, not likely to cause your problem. It also causes the bike to run lean which could cause problems in a relatively short time.

When a vehicle is running rich, the fuel-to-air ratio is off because the carburetor is delivering too much gasoline. Typical symptoms of a rich mixture are: Strong smell of gasoline when the machine is at idle. Uneven running (will often slow from regular idle rpms and then stop)

As the filter does its job it gets loaded up with dirt, and a dirty filter is going to rob your engine of power and put a dent in your fuel mileage. That’s why you’re supposed to replace the filter every 10,000 to 15,000 miles.

You should replace your motorcycle’s air filter about every 10,000 miles or about every year. If you ride through environments with more dirt and dust, you will need to change the air filter more frequently.

So if you can get cooler air into your engine, your car will be able to mix more fuel with that air, making more power. Combine that with the more air through the larger and less restrictive filter and intake tube and you can see up to a 10-15 horsepower increase.

Air filter oil – whether spray-on or out of a bottle – is designed to penetrate the foam cells and evaporate, leaving a sticky residue to trap foreign particles. Remember to liberally apply oil to the filter. The oil’s purpose is to prevent dirt and debris from passing through.
