One man from Florida made the headlines in 2018 after receiving a modular prosthetic limb — a robotic arm to replace the arm he lost in 2007 because of cancer. The animals are all rescues with limb amputations due to severe injuries, and they are able to control their prosthetic limbs thanks to special brain implants.

Most bionic limbs have built-in computers that detect the muscle signals. Some bionic limbs require sensors to be implanted into the remaining muscles of the limb stump. This type of bionic limb is much more advanced and can allow users to control the limb with their minds.

The bionic limb can lift approximately 40 pounds of weight, augmenting a user’s natural strength. The arm is predominantly made of aluminum and steel components, and is powered by a DC battery.

The LUKE arm is a modular prosthetic arm that is configurable for different levels of amputation including transradial, transhumeral, and shoulder disarticulation. The LUKE arm provides resistance against light rain and fine dust, allowing wearers peace of mind when using the arm outside the home.

Passive Prosthesis Passive prostheses are usually designed to look like a natural arm, hand and fingers. Multi-positional joints are sometimes combined with a passive prosthesis to provide the option of being able to position the shoulder, elbow, wrist or finger joints to improve a person’s function.

The artificial parts that are most commonly thought of as prostheses are those that replace lost arms and legs, but bone, artery, and heart valve replacements are common (see artificial organ), and artificial eyes and teeth are also correctly termed prostheses.

Robotic Exoskeleton The bionic exoskeleton, known as the Ekso, is used in rehabilitation centers to help patients recover from a stroke or serious injury, or manage conditions like cerebral palsy. Sensors and battery-powered motors drive the legs and make up for the lost brain-muscle function.

Bionic Chips, also simply called Bionics, are microchips in the back of bionic people’s neck and fused to the subjects nervous system, giving the person bionic abilities upon implantation of the chip. Bionic hardware can be implanted in other parts of the body though only that part will be affected by it.

The bionic revolution is transforming people’s lives through artificial body parts or prosthetics, such as a limb or implant. Non-invasive stimulation techniques could also be used in brain-machine interfaces and prostheses that feel, or remote sensing devices such as telesurgery.
