Thetis is angry to learn that Patroclus is there with Achilles, but she cannot see them there on the mountain. When Achilles learns this, he tells Patroclus and they kiss and have sex in the cave.

Patroclus was the son of Menoetius in Greek mythology, and best friend of the hero Achilles. His father was one of the Argonauts, while many different women have been mentioned as Patroclus’ mother; Polymele, Sthenele, and Periopis.

Throughout the novel, Patroclus fights to help Achilles keep that human, creative side—to be the man, not just the warrior. The title is also a reference to the Iliad, which literally means “the song of Troy.” I saw my story as Patroclus’s song to Achilles.

Achilles was a Greek hero, most famous for his part in the Trojan War. When he was born, Thetis dipped Achilles in the river Styx to make him immortal. She held him by the heel as she dipped him in, and because his heel did not touch the water, it was the only part of him that could be harmed.
