A stock is designed to be placed against the shoulder to absorb recoil. A brace is designed to be stabilized using the arm. Functionally there is no difference between a SBR or an pistol being fired with a shouldered arm brace. The only difference is in the legal definition of the weapon.

You can swap that one upper between the pistol lower and the SBR all day long until the cows come home and not be in any violation. The only thing that matters is that the less than 16 inch barreled upper never goes on a lower that has a stock and is NOT an SBR.
