Emily Jane Bronte, the fifth child of an Irish clergyman who became the curate of Haworth, Yorkshire, was born on July 30th 1818. Emily herself was dead by the age of 30. Emily Bronte never married, nor does she appear to have had any romantic attachments.

Wuthering Heights is an important contemporary novel for two reasons: Its honest and accurate portrayal of life during an early era provides a glimpse of history, and the literary merit it possesses in and of itself enables the text to rise above entertainment and rank as quality literature.

Like most authors, Emily Brontë was a product of her environment, and this directly influenced her writing. During her life she had no close friends, was interested in mysticism, and enjoyed her solitude outdoors. All of these elements grace both her poems and Wuthering Heights.

Charlotte Brontë

Charlotte Brontë was an English novelist best known for Jane Eyre (1847), the story of an independent young governess who overcomes hardships while remaining true to her principles. It blended moral realism with Gothic elements. Her other novels included Shirley (1849) and Villette (1853).

Bronte as a girl’s name is of English origin. Literary: transferred use of the surname of the sisters Charlotte, Emily, and Anne. The spelling is influenced by Greek “bronte”, meaning “thunder”, in place of Prunty, which is an Irish surname meaning “descendant of Proinnteach”.

Charlotte Bronte, the most famous of the Bronte sisters died 31 March 1855. The one who lived the longest and the sister who died first were buried side by side in a crypt located in the Haworth Church. But they live forever in English literary history. She died at 38, three weeks before her 39th birthday.
