Thanksgiving Day, annual national holiday in the United States and Canada celebrating the harvest and other blessings of the past year. Americans generally believe that their Thanksgiving is modeled on a 1621 harvest feast shared by the English colonists (Pilgrims) of Plymouth and the Wampanoag people.

The Pilgrims celebrated their first successful harvest in the fall of 1621 by firing guns and cannons in Plymouth, Massachusetts. While the Wampanoag might have shared food with the Pilgrims during this strained fact-finding mission, they also hunted for food.

The so-called first Thanksgiving has been celebrated and taught to schoolchildren as the origin story of what would later become the United States. But many Native Americans say Thanksgiving Day is a reminder of the slaughter of millions of Indigenous people and the theft of their lands by outsiders.

Just say “Thanks, you too.” Besides it being an excuse to eat pie, Thanksgiving means absolutely nothing to me, but people really don’t care about us special snowflakes. They really don’t, so just keep it moving.

Wish me Happy Holidays before Thanksgiving, then yes, it includes Thanksgiving. Generally though, Happy Holidays is meant to be a politically correct way to say Merry Christmas (eye roll inserted here) so you don’t offend someone’s religious preferences that may not include Christmas.

If you know for a fact that said person doesn’t celebrate Christmas, your safest bet is to wish them ‘Happy Holidays’ instead.

As currently celebrated in this country, “Thanksgiving” is a bitter reminder of 500 years of betrayal returned for friendship. Please stop generally wishing “Happy Thanksgiving” to people- assuming that they view the day as you do.

Thanksgiving meal is about sharing a bountiful feast with the people you love. The holiday contains good spirit and noble message. It is a secular holiday but has deeply religious and spiritual meanings. One group sees no issues celebrating the holiday and the second group marks it as haram(not permissible).
