Unlike the Xbox 360, you can’t save PS3 games to the external drive, so here, we’d suggest using an external HDD to keep all the music, movies and TV shows you want to watch while the games stay on the internal HDD on your console.

Place the storage device in the USB slot. According to the PS3 official website, a Memory Stick, SD Memory Card, CompactFlash or a USB mass storage device may be used to copy game data. Any disc media formats such as CD-ROM cannot be used.

PS3 has it backup tool that will not take much time or space, but it might get you out of trouble in the future. You can use an AC powered external hard drive or a flash drive as the backup drive. The backup drive for PS3 has to be formatted with FAT32.

Navigate to Game > Saved Data Utility (PS3). Press the Triangle button and select Copy Multiple. Check all the games you want to back up saved data for, then press OK. Choose your USB drive as destination device, then wait for the copy operation to complete.

You can’t install games on external USB drives. Games will only run off of the internal hard drive. You can replace the internal hard drive. It will take any standard SATA 2.5″ (laptop-sized) drive.

All you have to do is use a flash drive. Plug it into the ps3, go to the saved data utility, and copy your game data to the flash drive. Make sure that you wait a bit before unplugging the flash drive because if it’s still in use when you unplug it, then your data wiill be ruined.

You can copy saved data to a USB storage device that is connected to the PS4 system. Saved data that you copy can be used as a backup. Connect a USB storage device to the PS4 system. Go to Settings > Application Saved Data Management > Saved Data in System Storage > Copy to USB Storage Device.

Can I use a USB stick on my PS4? Yes, you can. You can use a USB stick on your PS4 as extended storage or just a common backup device. But you have to make sure the USB stick is FAT32 or exFAT.

After you’ve connected the HDD to the PS3, go to Settings > System Settings > Backup Utility > Backup. 2. Select Confirm and then select USB Drive, and your entire PS3 will be backed up on to the HDD. This process will take some time.

You put the usb storage device in the PS3, go to the Saved Data Utility option in the Game area of the Xross Media Bar (the interface of the PS3). Plug the USB drive or external hard drive into one of the USB ports on the PS3. Navigate to Video on the PS3 XMB menu and find your device. Hit triangle to view all contents.
