4r70w only works with 4r70w computer and 4r75w only works with 4r75w computer. The revised ring gear has lugs all the way around for the OSS to read off of, where earlier years read off of 6(I think) holes in the ring gear.

The 4R70W is a good transmission, but it has its pros and cons. Let’s look over some of its best qualities, and some of its faults and issues. For one, it has a much better and improved overdrive band. However, as powerful as it is, be careful not to overload this transmission.

4R75W. The easiest way to identify the AOD is the “Automatic Overdrive Metric” wording along with the Ford Blue Oval stamped into its 14-bolt galvanized steel pan.

The AOD transmission can be identified in several ways. Its prominent 14-bolt pan is probably the easiest way. The pan is basically square but the back two corners are tucked in a little tighter than the front corners making the pan look like home plate with the front point cut off.
