Weldbond glue, touted as the glue that will bond any surface together, can be used for a variety of applications. The best advantage of using Weldbond glue is that it dries clear, so it can be used in glass on glass mosaics.

They were used for decoration, and to show people how rich you were, were Roman mosaics were also very strong surfaces for walking on and were sometimes used as signs or for advertising. Roman mosaics were waterproof and easy to clean. This made mosaics very popular in public buildings and Roman bathhouses.

Make sure your base glass is clean so the glue can adhere effectively. But you can get creative with old picture frames or make mosaics on plain glass (as long as you smooth out the edges, install the glass in your own window or cover it with zinc).

Participants will create their own abstract mosaic by embedding the mosaic tesserae into an adhesive without the need to grout. Participants will learn how to use color pigments, create patterns and properly use certain adhesives.

Peel the clear film from the SimpleMat and apply your mosaic tile strips, working in small sections until you’ve covered the perimeter of your mirror. I thought I would have 1/2″ overhang on both sides of my mirror and ended up with almost a full 1″ on each side which is fine because it actually looks better this way.

Apply a squiggly line of glue to the back of your molding and place it in position on the mirror. If you glue in the bottom piece first you can rest the two side pieces on it, and then after they are dry rest the top piece on them. That way you don’t have to hold them in place to long while they dry.

3. Step 3 – Prepare the Frame.
4. Step 4 – Cut Tiles.
5. Step 5 – Glue Tiles to the Frame.
6. Step 6 – Apply Grout.

It’s important to use a nonsanded grout with glass tiles, as sanded grouts can potentially scratch the glass surface. This grout should only be used with grout lines between 1/16″ – 1/8″ (1.5 mm – 3 mm). If you are considering larger than 1/8″ grout lines with your subway tiles consider using a sanded grout.

How to grout a mosaic

1. Set up a clean workspace for grouting.
2. Add water and stir the grout with a paint mixing stick.
3. Start with a big glob of grout.
4. Just smear it into the mosaic.
5. Make sure grout gets in every crack.
6. Now you’re ready to wipe off the excess.
7. Wipe a straight line in one direction.

While the coarseness of sanded grout may make it a bit more challenging to clean, the sand itself shouldn’t scratch most types of ceramic or glass tiles. Because it is certain not to scratch tile surfaces, non-sanded grout is commonly used for ceramic tile, polished stone, metal tile, and glass tile installations.
