The Hydrox cookie is more crunchy with a stronger chocolate taste, while Oreo cookies are a little more crumbly but with more sweetness. The cream filling on Hydrox cookies is smoother and not overly sweet, while the Oreo cream is thick and ultra sweet.

Hydrox cookies, then manufactured by Sunshine Biscuits, made their debut in 1908. Oreos, then made by the National Biscuit Co. (Nabisco), followed in 1912. Keebler purchased Sunshine Biscuits in 1996 and replaced Hydrox with a reformulated product called Droxies in 1999.

The first Oreo was sold on March 6, 1912, to a grocer in Hoboken, New Jersey. The Oreo Biscuit was renamed in 1921 to “Oreo Sandwich”; in 1948, the name was changed to “Oreo Crème Sandwich”; and in 1974 it became the “Oreo Chocolate Sandwich Cookie”, the name that has remained to this day.
