Off-premises sale of alcohol is prohibited on the last Monday in May (Memorial Day), Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and the day after Christmas if Christmas falls on a Sunday.

Until 2018, Indiana was one of nearly a dozen U.S. states to ban all Sunday alcohol sales outside of bars and restaurants. That ban was repealed when Senate Bill 1 was signed by Gov. Eric Holcomb on February 28, 2018.

It’s one of the seemingly ironclad rules of adolescence: In the United States, you can’t drink legally until you’re 21. Of course, our underage consumption laws are flouted regularly. Some states make exceptions for when minors may consume alcohol. Others make exceptions for when they may possess it.

The law takes underage drinking seriously, and if you are caught violating any underage drinking laws, you may face the following consequences: Driver’s license suspension. Possible jail time. Fines.

California alcohol laws let those of any age below 21 have alcohol in private locations. Except in vehicles. They may drink if a parent, guardian, spouse or other responsible relative age 21 or older is present.

It is illegal for someone under 18 to drink alcohol in a licensed premises, such as a pub, except where the child is 16 or 17 years old and accompanied by an adult. In the above scenario, it is legal for them to drink, but not buy, beer, wine and cider to accompany a meal.

The 1872 Licensing Act effectively states that it is illegal to be drunk in the pub by making being drunk anywhere an offence. It states: “Every person found drunk in any highway or other public place, whether a building or not, or on any licensed premises, shall be liable to a penalty.”

However, if you’re 16 or 17 and accompanied by an adult, you can drink (but not buy) beer, wine or cider with a meal. If you’re 16 or under, you may be able to go to a pub (or premises primarily used to sell alcohol) if you’re accompanied by an adult. It’s illegal to give alcohol to children under 5.

Right now, you can eat and drink at a restaurant, both inside and out.

Because of its very low alcohol content, non-alcoholic beer may be legally sold to people under age 21 in many American states.

In California, unlike some other states, the law does not permit an exception for providing alcohol to a minor who is a family member or providing alcohol to a minor in a private residence (APIS, 2012). California is one of 20 states that does not allow for either exception.
