Additional Web Server and Additional Polling Engine cannot be installed on the same node. An Additional Polling Engine (APE) cannot co-exist on the same server as an Additional Web Server (AWS) or the primary polling engine.

Use the SolarWinds Orion Installer to install and upgrade Orion Platform products. With one installer, you can install or upgrade multiple Orion Platform products. You can also install or upgrade scalability engines (Additional Polling Engines, Additional Web Servers, and High Availability servers).

If you are a SolarWinds customer, download the Orion Installer from the Customer Portal:

1. Log in to the Customer Portal.
2. Select an Orion Platform product under Latest Downloads for Your Products, and click Choose.
3. Click Download to download either the online or offline installer:
4. Save the installer on your Orion server.

Enter appwiz. cpl and click OK. The current version number for all installed Orion Platform products is at the end of the “SolarWinds Orion Core Services” program. In the example above, the software version for all products is 2020.2.

Start and stop the SEM Agent on Windows

1. Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.
2. Type services. msc , and then press Enter. The Services window opens.
3. Scroll down and select SolarWinds Security Event Manager Agent.
4. To stop or start the service, click the Stop or Start buttons near the top of the window.

Run Configuration wizard

1. Log in to the Orion Server as a Windows Local Administrator.
2. Start the Configuration wizard found under Start > SolarWinds Orion > Configuration Wizard.
3. On Orion Platform 2020.2.
4. On Database Settings, verify that the correct SQL Server and authentication method are selected.

How did the SolarWinds hack happen? The hackers used a method known as a supply chain attack to insert malicious code into the Orion system. A supply chain attack works by targeting a third party with access to an organization’s systems rather than trying to hack the networks directly.

Click and drag to individually pick entities from the entity list, or use the Shift Key to grab a group of entities, and drag your selections onto the canvas as a unit. The click and drag process performs a marquee selection of entities.

To save the map, click More > Edit to return to the Edit mode. Click Save and provide a unique name. The Orion Map is saved. If your user account does not have Node Management rights, the saved map does not have a status and does not appear in the list of entities.

You can add Orion Maps to your views in a widget. See the Orion Maps post on THWACK. If your user account does not have Node Management rights, you can save maps only as entities without status. You can display such maps in a widget or in the View mode, but you cannot nest maps without status into other maps.
