Popup trundle beds are comfortable because you can move a twin pop-up trundle bed next to a twin parent bed to make a king-sized bed! They’re also easy to store, easy to assemble and easy set-up as well. Many varieties of pop up trundle beds exist.

There are two main types of trundle beds: pullout trundles and pop-up trundles. Popup trundle beds have rollers attached (typically) and they also pop up to the same height as their parent beds. Pull out trundles, on the other hand, remain at a lower height than their parent beds.

Daybeds and trundle beds typically use twin mattresses as stated earlier. The dimensions of a twin mattress are 39 inches long and 75 inches wide. Some rarer daybeds have larger mattresses. The larger ones measure 54 inches wide and 75 inches long.

Generally, trundle beds come in a complete set: the primary bed and the trundle. However, you can find separate trundles to fit under a bed with the proper clearance. An average trundle will be slightly shorter in length than a twin- or full-sized bed for it to fit underneath.

Both the twin and full size models are designed to accommodate an eight-inch upper and six-inch lower mattress. The top bed can handle up to 400 lbs on the twin model and 600 lbs on the full. The trundle bed holds up to 225 lbs on both.

The majority of trundle beds fit a twin or full mattress between 6″ and 8″ thick. We generally recommend a 6″ mattress, as this will make moving the trundle in and out easier and still will provide plenty of support.

Technically yes, but it depends on how low your bed’s frame is. For example, you won’t be able to fit a trundle under a bed that only has a couple of inches of room underneath it. Trundles come in full and twin sizes, so if you have a twin bed, you won’t want to purchase a full-sized trundle.

You should invest in a trundle bed if you need to save some floor space while providing extra sleeping space for kids or guests. If you’re willing to put some work into assembling a trundle bed, it can be a great investment for your home.

How to Build a Trundle Bed. Make a box with the two 2×4 x 75-1/2” boards on the outside of the two 32” boards. Secure them at each corner with two 2-1/2” wood screws (Image 1). Lay the box on the floor and add the 1/2” x 38-3/8” x 75-1/2” MDF piece on top of it, with one long edge flush with one long edge of the box.

The daybed construction may not require a box spring, the reason being that the box spring would raise the height of the mattress too much and make it difficult to use it as a sofa. The space beneath the daybed frame is often built as storage with drawers.

While you can get fitted covers for a daybed mattress, regular flat sheets work just as well if your daybed is primarily a bed. Tuck the sheets in under the daybed mattress to keep corners clean and leave the feet and other decorative features of your bed visible.

Daybeds are also often used in a child’s room for sleeping, and the trundle can be conveniently pulled out from under the bed for a sleepover. The trundle effectively hides an extra bed underneath, opening up space to be used for play. Daybeds come in wood, metal, or a combination of wood and metal.
