You can use your IDNYC card at any public library in New York City. It can be easily integrated with your account at the New York, Brooklyn, and Queens Public Library Systems, and it is the only card that is accepted across all three.

The Brooklyn Public Library is one of three separate and independent public library systems in New York City. The other two are the New York Public Library (NYPL), serving the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island, and the Queens Public Library, serving Queens.

The Brooklyn Public Library — along with the New York and Queens library systems — opened select library locations for in-person services on Monday, allowing patrons to peruse books and use computers for the first time since they closed March 2020.

Apply for a physical Library Card

1. NYS residents ages 13 and older may apply online for a library card.
2. Children 12 and under may not apply online and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to get a library card at an open branch.

How to use

1. Download the Overdrive app in the App Store, Google Play Store or for Kindle Fire.
2. Sign up for a new account by searching for “Brooklyn Public Library” and enter your barcode and PIN when prompted.
3. Search for ebook titles and send them to your preferred e-reading device from the app.

2. Add your library to the app and open its digital collection.
3. Find an available title in your library’s collection and tap Borrow.

Libby is great if you just want to download a book to your Android or iOS phone or tablet. OverDrive is the “classic” app, and is compatible with more devices, including Kindle Fire and Windows mobile devices. It also allows for transfer to e-readers and MP3 players from computers.

Overdrive improves fuel economy, and makes for less wear and tear on the vehicle when you are driving at highway speeds. Having the overdrive off is fine if you are driving in hilly areas, but if you are on the highway, it is best to have it on because you will get better gas mileage.

It’s not bad to drive with overdrive off and does no harm to the transmission. However, you will get worse fuel economy and have more noise at high speeds. An overdrive gear can reduce engine wear and improve fuel economy, but only if it’s used under conditions of light torque demand. Too much torque demand during acceleration can cause the engine to bog or die. Too much torque demand during deceleration can damage the transmission and clutch.

Ray: There’s really no good reason to limit the transmission to third gear. The more time you spend in your highest gear (overdrive), the better your gas mileage. And the higher the gear, the fewer times the engine turns for the same amount of distance traveled, so the longer the engine lasts.

Remember, you don’t use overdrive if you are driving less than 50 mph because it’s not fast enough or consistent enough. I know overdrive should only be off when towing or going up/downhill but does OD off make your car accelerate faster, Or faster in general? Absolutely not. No, it does not. Overdrive just forces the car to upshift to the highest gear which improves your fuel economy.
