If the problem is a damaged arm or adjusting screw which can be repaired, then do that. If the door closer does not respond to therapy (the appropriate adjustments), it is likely internally damage and needs to be replaced.

If the door slams shut or closes too slowly, adjust the pneumatic cylinder:

1. To slow the closing, turn the screw on the end of the pneumatic cylinder clockwise.
2. To speed up the closing, turn the screw counterclockwise.

Leaking oil can cause the door closer to seize in place. To fix this, remove the adjusting screw. Then, use the rust remover to clean the screw and replace the O-ring. Make sure to lubricate before replacing the adjusting screw.

Start with no more than 1/8 of a turn. Turn the adjustment screw clockwise to slow the closer down, counter-clockwise to speed it up. Open the door and watch it close. If it closes right the first time, check it 10 more times.

As air moves from an area of higher pressure (inside your home) to an area of lower pressure (outside your home), the change can cause enough air movement to slam the door. Such unevenness can create a swing due to the door’s weight (especially if it’s a heavy, solid-core door) or an air current in the house.

S and L are closing speed adjustment valves for a commercial door closer; where “S” indicates the sweep speed valve adjustment and “L” indicates the latch speed valve adjustment.

If the self-closing door to your garage isn’t closing hard enough to latch properly or the door slams shut, you can adjust the spring hinge tension with a hex wrench and pliers. Start by removing the locking pin (Photo 1). Then add or release tension until you get the proper close rate (Photo 2).

Super easy to adjust, the door roller catch has an opening on the one side of the nylon roller for you to insert a screwdriver allowing you to push the roller catch down into the case and turn it either clockwise to lessen the catch projection or anti-clockwise to extend the projection.

1. Locate the spot where the ball catch will be installed on the top of the door.
2. Measure the width and height of the barrel of the ball catch.
3. Drill a hole centered on the location mark.
4. Drop the ball catch in the hole and fasten the face plate to the top of the door with the provided screws.

To adjust the ball catch on a door, tighten or loosen it by turning it. Turn the ball catch clockwise if it needs to be adjusted to a lower height and counterclockwise to adjust it to a higher height.
