Weta Digital is a digital visual effects company based in Wellington, New Zealand. It was founded by Peter Jackson, Richard Taylor, and Jamie Selkirk in 1993 to produce the digital special effects for Heavenly Creatures.

Most insects will either migrate or hibernate to escape the winter, or at least lay their eggs before dying so that their larvae can hatch in the spring. The Weta don’t hibernate, though. They die. Zero heartbeat, zero breaths, zero brain activity, zero life.
