There is no direct connection from Glasgow to Isle of Arran (Island). However, you can take the train to Ardrossan Harbour, take the walk to Ardrossan Ferry Terminal, take the ferry to Brodick Isle of Arran Ferry Terminal, then take the taxi to Isle of Arran.

Arran is perfect for a day or two’s adventuring – and perfectly doable without a car. The bus route runs through Lochranza on its way round the island, where you can stop off to tour the Arran Distillery and explore the ruined castle and dungeons.

There are two ferries to Arran: You can travel from Claonaig in Kintyre to Lochranza, at the north end of Arran, which takes 30 minutes. No advance booking is necessary on this sailing. Simply turn up at the port of departure, go on the next available sailing, and buy a ticket on board.

Cheaper ferry fares make island travel more affordable

The road equivalent tariff (RET) allows fares to be realigned with the equivalent cost of travelling by road. From Monday, the cost of a return car journey from Brodick in Arran to Ardrossan in North Ayrshire will be £29.70 – down from £70. Passenger-only return journeys will cost £7.30 – a saving of £4.

Arran summer ferry sailings cancelled as CalMac forced to operate single vessel service. The ferry service to Campbeltown, which was set to restart on April 29, has been suspended to accommodate essential demand elsewhere and will not start until May 4 at the earliest.

Ferries run hourly between Wemyss Bay and Rothesay. The earliest departure is at 15:05 in the afternoon, and the last departure from Wemyss Bay is at 20:05 which arrives into Rothesay at 20:40. All services run direct with no transfers required, and take on average 35 min.

Ferry operator Caledonian MacBrayne has announced plans to remove around 30 car parking spaces from the terminal in Wemyss Bay, with effect from 1st August. However, there is commercial parking available locally and CalMac does not have the resources to build parking areas.
