The best-known Italian organized crime group is the Mafia or Sicilian Mafia (referred to as Cosa Nostra by members). The Neapolitan Camorra and the Calabrian ‘Ndrangheta are active throughout Italy, having presence also in other countries.

Kkangpae (Korean: 깡패) is a romanization of the Korean for a ‘gangster’, ‘thug’, ‘punk’ or ‘hoodlum’, usually referring to members of unorganized street gangs. Criminal gangs have featured in South Korean popular culture, including films and television, over the past decades.

During the occupation the Japanese yakuza dominated most of the Korean underworld from Seoul. There were some Japanese gangs in the North of the peninsula, but they were mostly centered in the South. The yakuza were rivaled by some disorganized Korean gangs, but many other Koreans worked for the Japanese.

There are approximately 3,200 organized crime groups in Japan. Of these, about 1,400 are affilitated with one of the three main yakuza groups: the Inagawa-kai, Sumiyoshi-kai, and the Yamaguchi-gumi. Inagawa-kai (稲川会): The largest group based in Tokyo.
