it mows good and is pretty dependable. however, it has had some nickle/dime stuff along the way. carb problems early on, but fixed under warrenty and no trouble since (more of a briggs and stratton issue there then mtd i guess).

The Craftsman name is now owned by Stanley, Black & Decker (SBD). SBD is having the Craftsman mowers built for them by MTD. Troy-Bilt is a brand owned by MTD. About 80% of the parts are the same for comparable mowers in the individual lines.

Well, both Craftsman and Troy-Bilt offer some of the good and quality built lawnmowers. Troy-Bilt products are manufactured by MTD,whereas Craftsman products are from AYP (American Yard Products). When it comes to dependability, Craftsman can give you more relaxing lawn care than the Troy-Bilt.
