In general, leaf cutter ants do not pose any danger to humans. They might bite if you threaten them near their nesting area or if they are disturbed during their food foraging. They don’t have the ability to sting and their bites are not dangerous.

Leafcutter ants have garbage chambers, where dead workers, old food, and other trash is taken. All of these chambers are built by excavator ants. They are the architects and construction workers of the colony. They expand the nest as the colony grows.

Unlike the workers, the breeders have wings, and, one fine day, the winged ants leave the nest to take part in a nuptial flight. Flying females mate with several males and collect sperm from each.

How To Prevent Leafcutter Ants

1. It is almost impossible to prevent Leafcutter ants.
2. The best method is to watch for early mound development and drench them with a non-repellent insecticide like Dominion 2L.
3. Drenching or spraying the mounds with Dominion 2L or Conquer is the best way to kill out the Leafcutter ants.

The Leafcutter ant doesn’t typically sting or bite but if threatened it may bite in defense. Leafcutter worker ants bite if an intruder threatens their nest or their normal food-gathering activities.

How To Get Rid of Leaf Cutter Ants

Leaf-cutter ants are found across a wide area in Central and South America, from Mexico to Argentina. They build their nests in a variety of natural and manmade habitats, such as farms, plantations, rainforests and forest patches.

Sift through a colony until you uncover the queen ant. Dig around a small ant hill, and place the entire ant colony into a container deep enough to hold the complete nest. Shovel far enough down and around so that you are able to extract ants out of all the chambers and tunnels.

Fortunately, there are several smells that ants can’t tolerate, and which may help to keep these pests out of your kitchen. Cinnamon, lavender, eucalyptus, peppermint, and garlic are just some of the scents known to disgust ants, and all can be used to your advantage.
