Most horses can be started under saddle at 3 years. Now the race track is a whole new game park. However 3 years is when most trainers will get on a horses back. how you dont want to start pushing the horse to hard at this age as his bones are still growing.

If you are looking for longlevity, then don’t expect too much from the cob until it is 7 or 8!! Then it should give you many years of happy service.

It really does depend on the quality of the riding (ie. novices tend to be heavier in the seat) but a 14.2 with good bone can easily carry 12 or 13st with absolutely no problem.
