Education Secretary Gavin Williamson has confirmed that 2021 A-level and GCSE results will be decided by teacher-assessed grades. Mr Williamson said a form of teacher-assessed grades would ensure grades are awarded “fairly and consistently”.

Q. When should I start studying for GCSEs?

You should begin revision at least six months in advance of your GCSE exams. The amount of time spent revising as well as the revision focus and dedication should increase at the three-month mark, then again at the one month mark and two-week mark.

Q. Do you do mocks in year 11?

Yes mock exams will be going ahead in 2021. To ensure that pupils taking mock GCSE and A-level exams are safe, those taking National exams (predominantly Year 11s and Year 13s) are not returning to school with all other students. Instead these pupils will be taught online until January 11th.

Q. Are Year 10 mocks past papers?

There’s only one past paper and it is locked. It’s unlikely that you will be given an exam that is available to students online (specimen papers etc.) so it’s fine to try those papers.

In exceptional circumstances, it may be in the best interest of a year 11 pupil to discontinue an examined subject because the school judges that, for example, they would achieve significantly better in their remaining subjects as a result, especially in GCSE English and mathematics.

Q. Is year 12 Methods harder than year 11?

Year 12 is basically an expansion of year 11 methods. So it’s not as hard as say year 11, where you learn completely new elements (from what i remember). The reason why some people might say it’s way harder is probably because you need to put a lot of effort in to get as high as you can for your score.
