Are dholes carnivores, herbivores, or omnivores? Dholes are primarily carnivores; however, there are reports that they will occasionally eat berries or small amounts of vegetation.

Found in eastern and southern Asia, from Siberia in the north to the Malay Peninsula in the south, dholes occupy a wide variety of climates and habitats, including dense forests, scrub, steppes, and alpine regions. They vary in color from charcoal gray to rust red to sandy beige, depending on their habitat.

The Dhole is able to jump over 3 metres high and can jump over a gap of 5 metres in width. This is quite a necessary adaptation to be able to pursue running prey. They have l ong fur to protect them from the cold rain in the rainforest.

Tigers are not known to prey on wolves, though there are four records of tigers killing wolves without consuming them. Tigers recently released are also said to hunt wolves. Siberian tigers also compete with the Eurasian lynx and occasionally kill and eat them.

Cats from warmer climates, such as lions, tigers, leopards, jaguars and ocelots, like water to cool off and are generally good swimmers. Cats from colder climates, like bobcats, lynx and snow leopards, avoid water because getting wet would hamper their coats’ ability to keep them warm.

Swimming tigers will usually submerge their bodies but not go completely underwater. But tigers aren’t the only big cats that regularly swim. Other warm climate species, including jaguars and lions, will relax in water and swim when necessary.

Tigers are typically wary of humans and usually show no preference for human meat. Although humans are relatively easy prey, they are not a desired source of food. Thus, most man-eating tigers are old, infirm, or have missing teeth, and choose human victims out of desperation.

And being predominantly nocturnal, lions lose their inherent fear of humans at night and become much more dangerous and prone to attack. Be more cautious at night. Avoid camping in areas of high lion density – maintain a watch throughout the night if worried.

Dholes can live up to 10 – 13 years in the wild, while the average lifespan in captivity is 16 years.

The dhole is a highly social animal, living in large clans without rigid dominance hierarchies and containing multiple breeding females. Such clans usually consist of about 12 individuals, but groups of over 40 are known.

Dholes are actually easier to domesticate than wolves. He claimed that the head was also very similar to the domestic dog, although if one looks at a dhole’s teeth, they are very different from any other species of dog. Hodgson kept several as pets, and he found them as trainable as domestic dogs.
