The Parade takes place in Downtown DC along historic Constitution Avenue. People line the street for blocks to watch the two-hour, televised procession of original floats, giant character helium balloons, and other fun Parade fanfare.

The most famous and best place to see cherry blossoms in DC is the Tidal Basin. Tourists flock to the basin every year to see more than 3700 cherry trees bloom. White granite monuments like the Jefferson Memorial and Washington Monument provide a stunning backdrop to cherry blossom pictures.

Where are the cherry blossom trees located? The cherry blossom trees currently grow in three National Park Service locations: around the Tidal Basin in West Potomac Park, in East Potomac Park (Hains Point), and on the Washington Monument grounds.

Japan is notorious for being on the pricey side, especially for a popular time like Cherry Blossom season. While accommodations and food are definitely more expensive than most tourist destinations – we were pleasantly surprised that we were able to keep the total cost of the trip down without sacrificing experiences.

Not to mention, they are surprisingly expensive. :-/ Cherry Blossom branches can be found between the months of March and April, and occasionally trucked down from Canada for an early May wedding. This means that if February is hot the trees will bloom early.

The 2021 National Cherry Blossom Festival concluded the majority of its programming on Sunday, April 11. Save the date for the 2022 National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington DC – March 20 through April 17, with the Parade on Saturday, April 9. Dates and schedule of events are subject to change.
